Class Details & Information
Understanding Self-Defense & the Law: Protecting Yourself Beyond the Fight Winning a violent encounter is only the beginning—are you prepared for what comes next? This course provides an in-depth look at the critical legal principles that determine whether a claim of self-defense will hold up in the criminal justice system. We will break down the five key elements of self-defense, explore Montana-specific statutes, and analyze how laws like the Castle Doctrine, Stand Your Ground, and Self-Defense Immunity apply in real-world situations. You’ll gain insight into the criminal justice process—from the 911 call to a jury verdict—while also learning how to navigate post-incident interactions with law enforcement. Additionally, we’ll dispel common myths perpetuated by the media and examine a high-profile self-defense case through the lens of fact versus fiction. Legal missteps can be just as dangerous as the threat itself. Unfortunately, the media, law enforcement, and prosecutors often misunderstand or misapply self-defense laws, leading to unnecessary legal battles for responsible gun owners. Understanding these laws before an incident occurs is not optional—it’s a responsibility. You fought for your life. Now, can you defend your actions in court? Make sure you’re prepared for every aspect of self-defense, both in the moment and in the aftermath. Class size limited to ten students.
